McKenna talks about his Scottish heritage and the celebs he has helped over the years.
World-leading hypnotist Paul McKenna has helped some of the world's biggest celebrities conquer stage fright, find confidence, lose weight, overcome phobias and quit smoking.
"However, my days of performing comedy hypnotism shows are behind me. I specialise in self help and therapy. I use modern psychological techniques including hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming to help people make behavioural changes - either to overcome a dysfunctional issue, or to improve an area of their life even more so they can fulfil their true potential."
"Celebrities I've helped include The Who's Roger Daltrey, Stephen Fry, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Rob Brydon, Sir Nick Faldo and Courtney Love. Roger doesn't need confidence before he goes on stage but he uses my confidence trance to put him in a peak state of performance, as does James Corden. "I'm also the go-to for people heading into the I'm a Celebrity jungle. Every year I get folk coming to me - this year it was Nigel Farage - asking for methods they can use to overcome their phobias in challenges."
The former Capital Radio DJ said: "Before there was a spooky stigma attached to hypnotherapy but not anymore. It is thought of as much more mainstream. People realise if you look after your mind as well as your body, you will live longer. "I'm desperate to find out more about him and where in Edinburgh he lived but my aunts and uncles have all passed away and there is no one left to ask.
"We have just come out of a biological pandemic and straight into a cost of living crisis. Everyone is anxious. Paul's show, which is coming to Edinburgh Assembly Halls on March 28, is based on his new book of the same name.
