Casting Matt James on ‘The Bachelor’ Is a Start—But There’s Still a Long Way to Go

While casting James is a step in the right direction, for sure, it’s all for naught if the contestants vying for his final rose are still predominantly white. Case in point: The Black Diversity Campaign’s

has more than 100,000 signatures, asking that all casting moving forward includes at least 35% BIPOC contestants. And honestly? Thirty-five percent is ahave included about 30 contestants—so 35% means the campaign is demanding just 10 or more contestants to be people of color. When you take into account that the majority of contestantsis praised for casting James, it's clear the franchise still needs to be held to a higher standard.
