We chat with CarnivalRow stars Tamzin Merchant, TheAndrewGower, and TheDavidGyasi about their family's new journey in the second & final season of the fae-filled PrimeVideo series:
Carnival Row season 2 continues the strange love triangle of Imogen Spurnrose , Agreus Astrayon , and Ezra Spurnrose following season 1's cliffhanger.
Andrew Gower: Well, dare I say his problem, bar society expectations, is he doesn't have anybody in his life apart from the sister. That's, I think, the crux of the matter. It is his life in some ways, and society is his life. And the expectation of society, and fitting into society, has become his life. Whether he wants to say that or not, that's the depths of why he needs to go to the other ends of the world to find his sister, and to fight for his sister.
I feel like as she stops to care what she looks like on the outside, she begins to really find her heart and what she really truly cares about on the inside. And that was really fun to play. It was really fun to play a fashion plate who gets knocked off her pedestal at the beginning of season 2 and doesn't have any power. [She] doesn't have the usual power that she kind of wields quite terribly in season 1.
David Gyasi: I think the conflicts are to do with goalposts, to use a little football analogy. We like to talk about football in this. But I think all of Agreus' life, and what he's known, the goalposts have been here, and then they move, and then they move again, and then they move again. And I think this move of goalposts that we see in season 2, the move is so extreme that it challenges everything that he's ever known, and calls into question what he feels now.
Andrew Gower: They're the dream. I mean, the beauty of turning back up to a job like this is you get to collaborate with people who you've worked [with] on eight episodes prior in season 1, too.
