Creator Julie Plec says that the new VampireAcademy series, which was just cancelled by Peacock after season 1, is looking for a new home.

Vampire Academy is currently looking for a new home after being cancelled by Peacock. The series, which is a new adaptation of the Richelle Mead young adult novel series of the same name following its 2014 film, premiered its 10-episode season 1 on Peacock in September 2022.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Vampire Academy creator Julie Plec, who also co-created The CW's The Vampire Diaries and created its spinoffs The Originals and Legacies, has revealed that they are currently seeking a new home for the series. This revelation came in a tweet thread that was responding to a fan speculating that classic series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Vampire Diaries likely would have also been cancelled in season 1 if they had come out during the streaming era. Plec explained that the business of streamers is brutal and that she's grumpy about the cancellation, but they are "knocking on doors" at various networks because there is "so much story left to tell.

The scheduling shakeups at The CW have come at a very unfortunate time for the cancelled Vampire Academy series, because that network would have been an obvious place to shop the title. Unfortunately, there is not yet a strong precedent for Peacock series surviving at other networks. The streaming service is known for canceling their shows early, as titles including One Of Us is Lying, Queer as Folk, Saved by the Bell, and Punky Brewster.

However, most of those other cancelled series are reboots of shows that were created by NBCUniversal, the company that runs Peacock. While they obviously hold the rights to Vampire Academy, it is a property that is less entrenched with their programming history, so other networks may have an easier time arranging licenses.
