Campbell Hall names former college assistant David Grace its new boys basketball coach.

His stops include Sacramento State, San Francisco, Oregon State, UCLA, Cal, and most recently, Vanderbilt from 2019-21 where he was the associate head coach.
This will be Grace’s third stint as a high school basketball coach. He was a head coach at South Mountain High from 2004 to 2006 and was the coach at Centennial High in Arizona this past season .Steve Tolbert stepped down after five seasons in early MarchGrace is expected to coach the youngest son of LeBron James, Bryce James, who will be a junior this coming semester. Bryce, who is currently enrolled at Sierra Canyon with his older brother, Bronny, is expected to transfer to Campbell Hall.
Campbell Hall returns top point guard Aaron Powell; shooting guard Tanner Jones, son of former NBA guard Dahntay Jones; and junior-to-be Isaiah Johnson, son of well-known NBA skills trainer Chris Johnson.There’s a feeling that Campbell Hall is trying to recreate what Sierra Canyon had the last four seasons with Bronny James, but what the expectations are for the Campbell Hall program moving forward is worth keeping an eye on.
Campbell Hall has star-power on its roster with names and teens from NBA bloodlines and ties – which undoubtably creates a buzz – but with Harvard-Westlake, St. John Bosco, Notre Dame, Bishop Montgomery, St. Bernard and Mater Dei primed for Open Division playoff hopes of its own, the Vikings’ roster might need to be bolstered.
The alternative could be to compete at a CIF-SS Division 1 or Division 2AA level, which is a field also loaded with talented players and notable programs. Only time will tell.
