California's main power grid operator asks public to cut usage on Wednesday due to high heat [Breaking]
The primary operator of the state’s electric power grid is asking the public to cut power consumption on Wednesday to help California cope with high heat and humidity.
The so-called Flex Alert issued by California Independent System Operator will be in effect from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. “With above-normal temperatures in the forecast across much of the state tomorrow, the power grid operator is expecting an increase in electricity demand, primarily from air conditioning use, and is calling for voluntary conservation steps to help balance supply and demand,” Cal-ISO said in aThe seasonal monsoon has caused high heat and humidity across San Diego County for more than a week, and that’s not about to change.
“The beaches will be in the upper 70s on Wednesday but it will be much hotter elsewhere,” said Dan Gregoria, a forecaster for the National Weather Service.“Places like El Cajon and Ramona look to be in the mid-to-upper 90s. The mountains will be in the 80s. And the deserts will get up to 109. And the high humidity will continue.”
