The directive is the widest-ranging so far of any state grappling with the growing COVID-19 epidemic. Gov. Gavin Newsom said he was confident that Californians would comply.
Despite the seemingly sweeping nature of the governor's order, there are a number of exemptions, Newsom said.
Essential travel includes trips to the grocery, gas stations, farmers markets, food banks, convenience stores, take-out and delivery restaurants, banks and laundromats, according to theThe directive also exempts critical infrastructure such as food and agriculture, healthcare, transportation, energy and financial services, the newspaper said.
