A man was shot while confronting a person who was stealing his car, according to Gilroy law enforcement officials.
A man was shot and killed in Gilroy early Tuesday morning while confronting a suspect who was stealing his car, authorities announced.
Gilroy police officers found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest on the 1300 block of Pheasant Drive at about 12:24 a.m., the Gilroy Police Department wrote in aThe man was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, police said. According to the Gilroy Police Department, an initial investigation found that the man was shot during a confrontation with a suspect who was stealing his car. After shooting the man, the suspect fled in the stolen vehicle, police said.
The car was later found by the California Highway Patrol after a vehicle pursuit. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody south of Salinas after the pursuit, police said.The Gilroy Police Department is treating this as an active investigation and will release more details as they become available.
