Business owners on Bessell Lane in Stapleford are seeking assistance as their street is filled with flood-damaged stock. They feel neglected by the Broxtowe Borough Council, which initially promised to collect the waste but later asked businesses to dispose of it themselves.
Businesses on a street in a Nottinghamshire town are appealing for help as flood-damaged stock lines the street on their doorstep. Business owners on Bessell Lane, Stapleford, have had to put trading to the back of their minds, as they try to get back on their feet in the aftermath of Storm Babet, which hit the area almost two weeks ago.
"We pay into the community as much as a homeowner does. I know they've got to protect the homeowners, but they're not helping us. There's a lot of businesses here that could potentially go under; we're not far off it, but we'll get through it." In spite of the current circumstances, Lee says he wouldn't want to relocate his business. He explained: "This place is ideal for us. We've got a warehouse, we've got our offices in here and the rent's perfect for us here, we like it."
Tony Baugh is another business owner on Bessell Lane who has been affected by the misinformation and has lost stock worth up to £40,000. He says 'a few skips' will not be enough to collect all the waste, and that a big container is needed. Tony pointed out that he would potentially look at the option of relocating his business. He said: "We want to know if this could have been prevented and if not and if this is the new normal, then we're going to move.
