Choudhary Jewels in Naperville was burglarized last week, prompting owner Madhu Choudhary to post a warning to residents and other businesses owners on social media.
Speaking in an interview Monday, Choudhary said the break-in occurred Sept. 18 at the 1355 S. Route 59 business. An undisclosed number of items were taken, and the police contacted the next morning, she said.Aurora police are handling the case because the while the store has a Naperville address, it is technically within the city of Aurora’s boundaries.A spokesman for the Aurora Police Department said he could confirm a burglary occurred Monday, Sept.
Choudhary Jewels has a design studio in Naperville, which is open by appointment only for customers seeking custom designs, sizings and small repairs, Choudhary said. Their storefront location is on Wabash Avenue in downtown Chicago. “There aren’t really people walking in and out,” she said. “Nobody comes in but clients. There’s no other foot traffic but the cleaners.”
According to Choudhary, those who broke in took a few custom designs, some made with expensive materials, that were being prepared for shipping. Asked about the financial loss, she said, “We are still working on the numbers.”Looking ahead, Choudhary said she will upgrading the studio’s security.Choudhary said she has not experienced an incident like this before, either at her downtown Chicago location — in business since 2013 — or the Naperville studio, which has been open since July 2022.
