There were no known victims in a shooting early on May 3, 2023, however, officials said they found damage to the Orrin G. Hatch federal courthouse. Bullets went "over the heads of several officers" in Salt Lake City shooting that resulted in the arrest of a teenager.

The investigation began just after 3:30 a.m. on Saturday when officers on the Central Bike Squad were patrolling a parking lot near 60 West Market Street. Officers reportedly heard several gunshots, and several of the rounds flew over the officers’ heads. At least one of the rounds allegedly struck a sign above the officers.Back-up was called before patrol officers located the suspect and attempted to take him into custody, but "he ran from officers near the Wells Fargo building," a press release stated.

Officers reported that they quickly and safely arrested the man who remained uncooperative with detectives. There were no known victims in the shooting, however, officials did say they found damage to the Orrin G. Hatch federal courthouse.Amhednasir Abdi, 19, was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of fleeing from officers, providing a false identification, and public intoxication. Detectives also booked Abdi into jail on previous outstanding felony warrants.
