The American star's innovative kit has helped him to go joint-top of the Masters' leaderboard on Day 3 in golf's first major of the year.
Bryson DeChambeau's branding-spanking new set of 3D printed irons that cost a reported £10,000 have helped him lead the way ahead of Day 3 in the 2024 Masters in Augusta.
The 30-year-old, who won the U.S Open in 2020, currently sits joint-top of the pile along with fellow Americans Scottie Scheffler and Max Homa, and his unique set of irons have been the subject of some intrigue by punters and golf fans alike. Golf outlet Flushing It on social media, report DeChambeau was only given the greenlight to use the new £100,000 Avoda Golf irons on Tuesday, just two days before the Masters got underway.
The California golfer normally uses Ping’s i230 irons on the course but has opened up on his reasons behind the switch to the new 3D printed irons, which have a face bulge that make for straighter and more accurate centre hits. DeChambeau said: "I had been practicing with quite a while before that. "Last week I found out that they were, unfortunately — we didn’t think it was going to be non-conforming, but they were. Just the groove edge was just too sharp. Carter Rich, , was super helpful, and I have to thank him for getting those approved and going through the right process."
He added: "I started practicing from then on out and felt comfortable with them Tuesday and Wednesday, had no issue." DeChambeau will hope to maintain his place among the leaders when he tees off for his fourth round at Augusta tonight.
