Man United captain Bruno Fernandes netted a late winner to help the Reds seal a 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Less than a week after Roy Keane called on Erik ten Hag to strip him of the captaincy, Bruno Fernandes stepped up when Manchester United needed their captain most on Saturday.
For Fernandes, it marked his third goal of the season, all of which have been match-winning strikes in the Premier League. He scored the winner against Nottingham Forest in August, sealing a 3-2 triumph, and netted the only goal of the game to see off Burnley in September. "So often already, from the moment I make him captain, he did this," said Ten Hag, speaking after the win at Fulham. "Always when he's playing he is giving energy, he is the example and you see the way he is pressing, the way he is counter-pressing, the way he is doing the recovery, he is absolutely the example.
Fernandes, however, is a figure, as he demonstrated against Manchester City just over a week ago, that can easily fail to control his emotions in high-pressure situations, often throwing his arms around resembling a toddler's tantrum. On the flip side, he can, when at the peak of his powers, be a nightmare to play against such is his quality on the ball and determination to make things happen.
