Bruce Campbell is very surprised that his DoctorStrange in the Multiverse of Madness cameo made the film's final cut. 'I can’t believe I made it into the movie! I used to joke that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t sure he was going to be in the movie...'😂
Bruce Campbell discusses his Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, saying he was surprised it appeared in the final cut. The latest entry in the MCU was directed by Sam Raimi, a frequent collaborator with Campbell, with the duo most notably producing the Evil Dead trilogy that launched both of their careers. Campbell has frequently made cameo appearances in Raimi's other films, including Darkman, Oz the Great and Powerful, and the Spider-Man trilogy.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness follows the titular Strange as he attempts to protect a teenage hero who has the ability to travel the multiverse and is being hunted by Scarlet Witch . Campbell appears in both the main film and the Multiverse of Madness post-credits scene as a vendor for a food stall seen in an alternate universe visited by Strange and Chavez.
"I can’t believe I made it into the movie! I used to joke that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t sure he was going to be in the movie because they were constantly reworking the storyline and Sam had to shoot additional stuff that wasn’t in the original script, so it’s a shell game." Given the decades-long partnership between Raimi and Campbell, it's not surprising that the director would find a place in the movie for Campbell to appear and ensure it made the cut. Well before Multiverse of Madness was released, a potential cameo from Campbell was the source of plenty of online speculation. Campbell eventually look to Twitter before the Doctor Strange sequel debuted to confirm his appearance, but left viewers to wonder in what capacity he might feature.
Evil Dead remains a staple of horror movie history, brought to life by Raimi's imaginative direction and Campbell's campy and beloved lead performance. Though the two have had their own separate careers since then, it's good to see they remain close, to the point where Raimi will work around a multi-million dollar MCU franchise entry like Doctor Strange 2 to fit in his old friend.
