The remarks came during a pro-Palestinian vigil on the university's campus.
A pro-Palestine student at Brown University cried "glory to our martyrs" just days after the Hamas terrorist invasion of Israel.
The remarks came during a campus vigil Thursday meant to honor the Palestinian people killed amid the Israel-Hamas war. The event was"While all loss of life deserves to be mourned, we cannot stand by as the root cause of this violence is not only ignored but strengthened," the group wrote. "This is not a conflict; it is settle colonialism that has yielded a brutal apartheid regime.
Brown SJP also noted in its statement Wednesday that Israel "will use weapons and equipment Brown's endowment has helped pay for and profited from" as it "promises unprecedented mass killing of Palestinians in Gaza."The student group's event sparked outrage on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, with some calling it a "stain" on Brown University's reputation.
"It is absolutely sickening to witness students not just sympathizing but actually praying and holding a vigil for terrorists who committed atrocious acts of rape, slaughter, and the kidnapping of innocent Israelis," Anthony D'Ellena, a field organizer for the Rhode Island Republican Party, wrote. "This is not a matter of free speech; this is a betrayal of basic human decency.
The National Desk reached out to Brown University for comment, but did not immediately receive a response. This story will be updated if a response is received.
