'Severe turbulence' forced the Singapore Airlines flight to divert from its course and land in Bangkok
A British passenger has died and at least 30 others have been injured after a Singapore Airlines flight from London Heathrow was hit by severe turbulence.
Flight SQ 321 was carrying a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew when it hit turbulence around 11 hours into its 13-hour journey, Singapore Airlines said in its statement. In the press conference on Tuesday afternoon, it was reported that about half of the passengers would be ready to travel to Singapore tonight.
He told Reuters: “Suddenly the aircraft starts tilting up and there was shaking so I started bracing for what was happening, and very suddenly there was a very dramatic drop so everyone seated and not wearing seatbelt was launched immediately into the ceiling. A spokesperson for the airline said: “Singapore Airlines flight #SQ321, operating from London to Singapore on 21 May 2024, encountered severe turbulence en-route. The aircraft diverted to Bangkok and landed at 1545hrs local time .
