Britain’s climate change adviser slammed a last-minute commitment by Australia ahead of the United Nations climate summit in Glasgow to achieve “net zero” emissions by 2050, saying it lacks the action items needed to deliver on that pledge.
Those pledges, in turn, are mostly too weak to collectively meet the goals forged as part of the 2015 Paris agreement: to keep global warming “well below” 2 degrees Celsius, or 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, and, if possible, stop at 1.5 degrees Celsius.for 2030 and 2035 to help achieve net zero by 2050 and is among a handful of countries where the overall climate commitment is “nearly sufficient” to meet the Paris agreement’s 1.5C temperature limit, according to Climate Action Tracker.
