The woman's body was washed up on a beach in Almyrida and rescuers desperately performed CPR on her for over half an hour but she couldn't be saved.
A British tourist has tragically drowned while on a trip abroad to Crete in the third death the Greek resort has seen in a matter of days. The woman, who is believed to be Welsh, was discovered on the afternoon of Oct, 5 after her lifeless body was swept ashore to Almyrida beach near Chania.
The Welsh woman's dreadful death is the latest tragedy on the coast after authorities made the debatable decision to eliminate lifeguards to watch the beach. It is also the second death of a Brit in Greece in recent months after a student was killed by a helicopter blade in Athens. Jack's heartbroken mum Victoria has now shared how the family has been left "completely devastated" after losing her "wonderful boy".
