The SAS has conducted a dramatic rescue mission to get British diplomats and their families out of war-torn Sudan – but a number of UK citizens remain in danger as the civil war spreads.

The military personnel, after getting a hold of local vehicles, drove through the epicentre of the fighting in the city amid fears aircraft would need to be deployed if the situation grew too intense. French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted an image of a French Air Force plane that arrived in Djibouti to evacuate people of different nationalities Defence Secretary Ben Wallace told BBC News the C-130 Hercules and A400 Airbus aircraft were deployed to ‘go in and collect our diplomats and their residents, and fly out to safety’.
