These brilliant photos of Northampton's Market Square and Newlands from 1972 show the old Emporium Shopping Centre which was demolished shortly after they were taken.
The Great Fire of Northampton devastated the town centre in 1675, destroying more than 600 buildings in just six hours. Local people raised around £25,000 towards rebuilding the town centre-based around Market Square.
