A major motivation behind the change is to better reflect the local Welsh culture and to promote the Welsh language.
“It’s an imposition on us really and it’s only right that we recognise that and try to make up for that.” It is not the first Welsh park to make the move. Last November, Snowdonia National Park Authority voted to use only the Welsh names for Snowdon, Yr Wyddfa, and Snowdonia, Eyryr. Officials in Brecon were adamant that visitors could continue to refer to the park in any way they wished and that the name change affected official park business and communications only.
