Marcell Ozuna on his milestone-making teammate: 'MVP. There’s no doubt. They might have to announce it tomorrow.”
Acuña, smiling and laughing with his two young sons, Ronald and Jamal, at an interview table, said of 40-70 through an interpreter: “I’d be lying if I said to you that I thought I was going to get this done, that I was going to be able to do it. It was one of those numbers that wasn’t impossible but seemed impossible. So, thankfully we were able to get it done.”
Acuña scored the tying run in the eighth, and after the Cubs got a run in the ninth on another shaky bullpen night for Atlanta, Ozuna’s homer in the bottom of the inning tied it again. But the Cubs took a lead once again in the 10th. “It’s awesome,” he said of Acuña’s performance. “I’m sitting there thinking, ‘Oh, my God.’ No. 1, just the base hit to tie the game was a nasty, nasty pitch that he hit. And to get that bag and score the winning run, that’s about as good as it gets. And I thought it was great the way he picked the bag up and showed it. The fans had to love that. We all did. Because it’s a special moment.”
