AKRON, Ohio — A 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he was wounded in a shooting while riding in a stolen vehicle, according to police. Police say officers were called to the area of Lakeshore Boulevard and Lloyd Street in the Summit Lake neighborhood at about 2:05 p.m. Friday. Officers found an abandoned Jeep Cherokee that had crashed into a pole on Lloyd Street. The Jeep had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
The 13-year-old was an occupant in the stolen vehicle when he was wounded, but police say they still don’t know the circumstances leading to the shooting. The boy was taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital by a “Good Samaritan,” according to police. His wounds are not considered life-threatening. No arrests have been made and investigators are trying to identify the suspects involved. Shell casings and other evidence were found at the scene.
