A member of the public reported seeing the child throw the object just north of Lancaster station earlier this week. Train staff later reported seeing a 'smashed outer window skin' on the service.
In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, a force spokesperson said: "A member of the public reported seeing a child throw a rock at a passing train just north of Lancaster Station. Shortly afterwards a TPE Customer Assist train reported a smashed outer window skin.
