'Joker' earned another $4.18 million yesterday, bringing its 14-day total up to $218.005 million
and it pitted an indifferently received Superman against a Batman whom audiences had never met. Again, this was the MCU difference, offering specific versions of these characters as opposed to banking on “Hey, it’s Iron Man!” to win the day.
And, yes, it was perhaps a mistake to overspend to the tune of $300 million or so to retrofit Zack Snyder’s. At the very least, bringing in Whedon to fix a Snyder flick is like bringing in Woody Allen to fix a Spike Lee movie. Yes, they are both distinctly New York filmmakers, but they aren’t exactly two of a kind. But then, along the way to now, two curious things happened. First, Ben Affleck dropped out of directing and then starring in a solomovie.
