NEW: Boulder County emergency crews are responding to a grass fire west of Longmont that has prompted evacuations.

Boulder County emergency crews are responding to a grass fire west of Longmont that has prompted evacuations, but officials said firefighters are making progress on trying to contain the spread.

The fire, which is being called the Table Mountain Fire by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, is now at 25 acres near Nelson Road and 55th Street. Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has issued a mandatory evacuation order for the area bordered by 51st to 63rd streets and Nelson to Neva roads. At about 4 p.m., crews on scene said “things have slowed down quite a bit” and that there was “no real heavy spread” as the fire hit grasses that were either heavily grazed or greening up.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office then tweeted that crews were making “significant progress” on the fire.
