Boruto is approaching the beginning of the end.
Viewers have been quick to point out the differences between Naruto and Boruto since the Seventh Hokage's son stepped into the spotlight. The titular characters themselves are far from clones of one another, but the stories are also opposites in many ways. The recent time skip in Boruto has made these differences all the more obvious.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The time skip has led to arguments over the quality of the shows. Disgruntled fans feel that the jump in Boruto's timeline has pushed things too far too quickly, resulting in a rushed story. There wasn't this much outcry when Naruto experienced its own time skip, however, which suggests that viewers should focus instead on the implications this jump has on the timeline itself.
Naruto's Time Skip Bookended the Series One reason that Naruto's time skip didn't cause as much of an uproar is because it felt like a natural pause in the flow of the story. The break between Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden mirrored the separation of the manga. The pause between parts felt more calculated and tolerable due to the anticipated length of the story. The manga was written over the course of fifteen years, allowing for a slower approach and further planning.
Boruto does not have the same luxury. First published in 2016, the manga hasn't had nearly as much time to build up its plot. The time skip feels rushed because the story cannot afford to be patient like Naruto could. The two jumps are further differentiated by their use. Where Naruto's skip was used as a bookend between parts one and two, Boruto's time skip feels finite, suggesting it may be introducing the final arc.

At first glance, it seems like Boruto's time skip was one of the failures. Perhaps this is due to the high standards it has to measure up to. Naruto is a beloved franchise, offering over a decade's worth of content for fans.
