When announced, the idea of a significant weight gain , the switch to a torque converter automatic gearbox away from the previous M-DCT twin clutch box, and of course, the highly divisive styling, had onlookers wondering if the M department really had lost the plot.
There’s no way of distinguishing an xDrive equipped M3 from a rear-wheel drive one. There’s no subtle badging to speak of, no difference in body trim or wheel design. The xDrive setup is similar to the one used on the M5 in that it uses an electronically-controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, and in normal driving is largely rear-wheel drive.

Until 2001 the Z3M had the running gear from the E36 BMW M3 with the S50 3.2ltr 6 cylinder engine producing 317BHP from the later cars utilising the S54 3.2 from the E46 M3 with 321 BHP. Since production ceased, its reputation has grown as has its status as a modern classic amongst petrol-heads. This coupled with the vehicles scarcity has lead to them becoming a cast iron investment in recent years With just 821 RHD cars reportedly sold in the UK and with only around half still registered with the DVLA makes this a rare sight on the roads today. Provenance: The car has been in the same family ownership since 2002 and has a full service history, mainly BMW until recently, the current mileage is 91000. Along with the already generous specification, additional features include an electric glass sunroof, heated seats, cruise control and the BMW radio cassette has a 6 disc CD changer in the boot. Exterior: Prior to going on sale the car has undergone a sympathetic restoration to its former glory. We stripped down the car and replaced or repaired any items of concern before fully respraying the car in the original Estoril Blue.
