The importance of Latino voices on Blue Beetle.
Summary Co-owner of 9B Collective and Blue Beetle concept artist Phil Boutte explains why it was important for the movie to have Latino voices at every level, including with the concept artists. Comic book movies have become more diverse over the last few years, with heroes like Black Panther, Shang-Chi, and Wonder Woman becoming major players. Blue Beetle is an important step in Latino, and specifically Mexican, representation in the superhero genre on the big screen.
Phil Boutte: Working with Angel and producer John Rickard, we were brought in as a special case to be a conceptual hub, but mainly to bring in diverse voices. So that was most of the team that we had on 9B was Latin and it was specifically for that reason so that we could work with the creatives that were on the project, but make sure that there were diverse voices.
