A slain Birmingham girl has been identified as 14-year-old Moriah Quib-Marques. She attended Ossie Ware Mitchell Middle School. Her mother also suffered life-threatening injuries during a Wednesday morning shooting.

A 14-year-old girl was killed and her mother critically injured in a shooting Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at 80th Street and Fifth Avenue North. A Birmingham seventh grader has been identified as the young girl gunned down Wednesday morning in a shooting that also left her mother critically injured.

He is being held in the Birmingham City Jail on suspicion of capital murder. His name will be held until formal arrest warrants are issued, police said. Fitzgerald said East Precinct officers were dispatched to the area after receiving multiple Shot Spotter alerts. “I could see a guy standing in the middle of 80th Street with a long gun just shooting randomly,’’ he said. “When I saw that I called 911. The only thing I knew was the SUV had crashed into the pole.”Finton is a member of the North East Lake Neighborhood Association. “The crime due to the blight is just ridiculous,’’ he said. “We can get no support from City Hall.”
