The taxonomic tradition sees enthusiasts ranging from seasoned ornithologists to brand new birdwatchers take to their backyards and neighbourhoods to report and record what birds they see. What this does is allow for research to be conducted simultaneously by citizen scientists.
The mobilized group of thousands of citizen scientists serves a function that otherwise could not happen. On Saturday, Jared Clarke spied 50 common redpolls near his home outside of Regina with a hoary redpoll in the mix.
