The crypto CEO known as 'CZ' considered taking over FTX before its bankruptcy filing, but decided against it after looking over the company's finances.
That was Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao — a Chinese-Canadian crypto executive often called “CZ” — talking about former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried during a CNBC interview that aired Thursday morning.
Zhao was also asked by CNBC “Squawk Box” anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin if he believed Bankman-Fried knew what he was doing as the leader of FTX. Bankman-Fried has been extremely active on Twitter over the past few weeks, often posting long threads about his company’s meltdown. And a reported Twitter conversation between Bankman-Fried and Vox’s Kelsey Piper over direct messages was raising eyebrows on Wednesday night. The DMs showed Bankman-Fried typing, among other things, “fuck regulators … They make everything worse.”
