The 80-year-old comic condemns religious bigotry in Scotland in his new book Rambling Man: My Life On The Road, explaining that growing up he was 'saturated' with it.
The comedian condemned football-related bigotry between Rangers and Celtic supporters, which he described as "racial prejudice on both sides". He was brought up a Catholic in Glasgow and said he was repeatedly told from an early age that Protestants were "bad".
"We were saturated with it growing up - including in the form of football 'team spirit', which was thinly disguised racial prejudice on both sides. It's been going on for centuries - and not just in Scotland. He added: "I'm fuelled by anger. I get angry about anything that's remotely unfair. It's a great source of stage energy. All that anger comes raging up from somewhere inside and launches me into furious complaints and savage attacks.
The retired stand-up, who has been given a seat for life at Celtic Park along with fellow celebrity fan Rod Stewart, said: "Everyone around me knows I can't be interrupted on 'Soccer Saturday'.
