Billionaire’s Row, an area of exclusive properties in North London was on high alert this week after armed police were called to attend reports of a 'large cat' seen in a garden by DavidGDawkins
Police confirmed that armed police were not needed, and the cat “made off from the garden.”
However, Chris Draper, Head of Animal Welfare and Captivity at Born Free Foundation is less convinced that the animal is as innocuous as the police report states, calling it a “designer animal that may or may not be being kept legally.”that the animal looks more like a first generation hybrid of a Serval, a large wild cat native to Africa, and popular in illegal breeding circles in the U.K.
Draper warns that the police were too hasty in their classification of the animal. He adds, “If it’s a Serval it needs a Dangerous Wild Animal license. If it’s what’s called an F1 – which is the first generation hybrid – it needs a Dangerous Wild Animal license … you can't excuse the animal from licensing just because it's a nice friendly animal.
Billionaires Row or The Bishops Avenue, is an exclusive residential area in North London’s N2 postcode. Billionaires with reported properties in the area include Sports Direct and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, F1’s Bernie Ecclestone, the Sultan of Brunei and billionaire steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. Other notable residents include Ringo Starr and Joan Collins.
