It's just two weeks before the festivities begin
Nottingham Beach seems like a distant memory as all thoughts turn to the festive season in Nottingham's Old Market Square. The big wheel is already in place, dominating the skyline, as it takes centre stage in front of the Council House.
This year's Christmas spectacular, Winter Wonderland, will start a week earlier than usual, opening on November 7. It will run until December 31. The 60m high observation wheel gives a bird's eye view of the city. Construction is well underway to build the Sky Skate, a new attraction last year which proved a hit taking ice skaters above ground on an aerial path around the square. Sur La Piste, the alpine style bar, is also being erected.The event will once again have log cabins selling Christmas gifts, while an array of food and drink stalls will offer plenty of comforting treats such as Yorkshire pudding wraps and mulled wine to keep visitors warm.
Younger visitors can have fun on a toboggan ride and Frozen swing. The festive lights are up on the Council House but the Christmas tree has yet to appear. Last year's 60ft fir was decked out with 4,000 twinkly LED lights.
