Roads, visitors center closed at Big Bend National Park, where patrons are encouraged to avoid hiking
Park officials are warning that most of the roads have snow on them and many have been completely closed to traffic already. The Chisos Basin Visitor Center is closed as well.
"At least 5 inches of snow have fallen at Panther Junction Visitor Center so far this morning,” park officials posted on their social media accounts. “Please be advised we do not recommend traveling on any roadways in these conditions."Snowfalls happen once or twice a year in the highest elevations among the Chisos Mountains, but the size of Monday’s snowfall at almost the start of spring is rare.
