The Biden administration’s rush to help Ukraine push through a cold winter as the war continues is running up against the clock.
Russia has ramped up missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid, knocking out heat and sending the country into darkness as the winter approaches.
Pyatt said he spoke Monday morning with Ukraine’s minister of infrastructure, the deputy energy minister, the head of national grid operator Ukrenergo, and the Ambassador to Washington, Oksana Markarova, about their priority requirements. Asked whether the U.S. was working to supply the transformers and other equipment that Ukraine says it desperately needs, Pyatt did not answer directly but said the Biden administration would detail more soon.
