The town hall-style debate will kick off at 6 p.m. in the 1,000-seat McAllister Fine Arts Center, located on the San Antonio College campus at 1300 San Pedro Ave., and will be free to attend as well as available via livestream. The event will be moderated by government and politics reporterGonzales, who is seeking his third term, is being challenged in the Nov. 8 midterm elections by LaHood, a trial lawyer who is the brother of former District Attorney Nico LaHood.
Campaign finance reports in July indicated that Gonzales has roughly six times more cash on hand than Marc LaHood, thanks to a national base of low-dollar donations from backers interested in electing district attorneys across the country who support criminal justice reform. Still, Gonzales has become a top target for Republicans this fall, after bucking GOP state leaders on possible abortion prosecutions and immigration enforcement.
