It will give post-16s an opportunity to do football training and get a BTEC Level 3 qualification
Steven Gerrard is set to open a new academy in partnership with a Nottinghamshire Football Club. The former England player, who is the founder of the Steven Gerrard Academy, is set to launch a post-16 education and football programme in partnership with Stapleford Town Football Club, at the Hickings Lane Recreation Ground, Stapleford.
“We’ve been going for 10 years and to be associated with the Steven Gerrard Academy, having that name there and being associated with them is just huge for us. It will give us the proper foundation to carry on building the club and take it in the right direction. Pete added they were lucky enough that Andy Sterling, Steven Gerrard's accountant and agent, reached out when he heard about the facility and “put two and two together”.
The new football academy will bring further education provision to Stapleford. The academy will offer a combination of full-time BTEC Level 3 qualifications, including sport and media, at the new Community Pavilion building which is planned to be built as part of the town fund. He said: “I’m absolutely delighted, what it means for the community is that we will have access for young people to give them some hope and inspiration and prove that we can develop a good relationship with the benefit of everybody.
