Even as adults, many of us would love to go back one last time
For more than 70 years, trips to Colomendy were a rite of passage for kids across Merseyside, with hundreds of children heading to the North Wales holiday camp each year with their school. Occupying a site at Loggerheads near Mold, hundreds will remember enjoying everything from dib dab lollipops to having a rivalry with the other school visiting at the same time.
For many, Colomendy still holds pleasant childhood memories. ECHO readers have since shared a number of theirs on our Facebook page, from the popular tuck show to the legend of 'peg leg.' Susan Wilkinson said: "Loved it there... there was no school rivalry, I made friends with lots of girls while there from other parts of Liverpool." Stephen Forster wrote: "I loved Colomendy! Went with my Spanish class in school where we met our penpals. Funny story my penpal was from Surrey so I spoke no Spanish all week. Same year I went back with family and friends."
Tricia Higgins said: "Loved Colomendy when I was a kid." Joseph Cox wrote: "Great memories there of the tuck shop." Gillian Hood said: "Oh wonderful memories of school camping in the dormitories in 1969. Fun on the coach from East Anglia and loved the adventures of pot holing in the caves to climbing Snowdonia, and Great Orme railway. We had bunk beds then, such great childhood memories, thanks for posting and good to know it’s still in existence!!."
