This year's pick for best bookstore in Houston.
Best Bookstore: Kaboom Books
A bookstore needs books and there are lots of them at Kaboom Books, real books you can touch, feel and page through, so many they fill bookshelves built 12 high in the main room of the Woodland Heights-area retailer. Rolling stepladders in this nook or that cranny help the used book store’s proprietors, who brought Kaboom to Houston after decades of bookselling in New Orleans, help customers select out of reach items.
Kaboom is that perfect mix of quantity and quality. It’s a great place to while away a lunch break or an early afternoon. Like a maze, you’ll move from one room to another, combing the store’s inventory, which is organized over 84 different sections of interest. Rare books in antique cases and vintage baseball mitts tacked high on a wall give the place a true Heights vibe. The place is cozy and welcoming, but its real appeal is in bringing so many arts and science titles together under one roof.
