Dublin Jerome, New Albany, Olentangy Berlin, Olentangy Orange and Grandview Heights won girls soccer district titles Oct. 29.

Goalie Claire Walden came up big in a shootout to help the top-seeded Bears edge 10th-seeded Watterson on Oct. 29 at Marysville for the program’s first district championship.Walden stopped two of the four shots she faced, and Ali de Gracia made the decisive penalty kick.

“We have been practicing every single day since the postseason started, and I knew it was in as soon as it left my foot,” de Gracia said. “There was no doubt that it was going to the back of the net.” “There’s more goals to come,” Petrov said. “This was a tough one, and I’m really proud of the kids with how they’re pushing and going through everything.”

Amid heavy traffic in front of the goal, the ball trickled in off a Coffman defender 6 minutes, 29 seconds into overtime. “This group has bought into everything and worked their tails off. I’m so proud of them,” coach Jared Dombrowski said. “We’re just going to keep grinding. It’s all emotion. It was a rush to win this game.”

The Pioneers advanced to play Berlin in a regional semifinal Nov. 1 at Big Walnut. The teams played to a 1-all tie Oct. 13.
