"The fitness industry is evolving. It is moving towards being more focused on health and wellbeing, rather than just losing weight. The current model isn't working. More and more people are overweight and depressed, or struggling with their mental health while just five per cent of people who lose weight keep it off within one year.
Ben struggled with his own mental health throughout his life. He had previously been left crippled by anxiety and depression.He said: "It is not something I am proud of, and it is hard to talk about. We all have challenges in life but I had battled with depression and anxiety my whole life, which is one of the key drivers which led me to becoming a personal trainer.
He added: "The most recent low point for me was January 2022. I was at rock bottom at that stage. I had enough and wanted to take my own life. Ben is preparing to open an all new Health and Wellness centre in Belfast aimed at helping people with busy & stressful lives. The facility, which launches on April 7, will take an alternative approach to fitness, wellness and mental health awareness.
"The data is there to show the mental health crisis increased during lockdown. Some people thrived during it, but I think it was a minor portion of people. The health crisis is getting worse, and you can see it through the NHS.
