Elected members told there will be no extra cost in replacing the dodgy signs

A Belfast City Council officer informed elected members at a committee meeting on Friday that an urgent meeting had been called with the contractor responsible after Irish street signs were erected in various parts of the city with spelling mistakes.

“As soon as we were made aware of those signs we were in touch with the contractor. Essentially, the spelling mistakes took place in the fabrication of those signs, so they occurred between them being made and being installed. She added: “We have also gone back and looked at all of the street signs that have been installed under the current policy, and undertaken spelling checks and grammatical checks on all of those, and they have all proven to be ok. So it is just an issue with the current batch, and we have a meeting organised with the contractor next week, to take this up with him.

Alliance Councillor Michael Long said: “I have major issues as to how the signage can be correct when it goes to the place, and then different after it is fabricated. I just don’t understand how that could even happen.
