Motion condemns the DUP for preventing 'local decisions'
Belfast Council has passed a motion denouncing the DUP for blocking a functioning executive and assembly.
The motion adds that Belfast Council “condemns the refusal by the DUP to participate in the reform and reformation of the Executive, which would allow for local decisions on HSC pay to be taken with haste, and calls for a fair pay offer for HSC staff to be tabled immediately.” He said: “Let me be clear here tonight. Those who fail to show up bear much of the brunt of this. The stubbornness that exists within our politics for some here has consequences. These are the consequences.
“Doctors in NI have seen their pay eroded by over 30 percent since 2008, compounded by not receiving their 6.5 percent pay rise this year as recommended by the pay review body, due to the lack of a functioning executive.” DUP Alderman James Lawlor said: “It won’t be a surprise to members that we can’t support the motion as it currently stands.
