The issue has been ongoing for a number of months in the Ravenhill Road/ Woodstock Road area
Residents have been forced to leave their homes as a result of an infestation of "rats the size of dogs".
George Newell, of the Lagan Village Youth & Community Group, said that residents in the area are primarily elderly and young mothers and that the infestation of rats is putting them and their children at risk.He says that Belfast City Council and housing associations operating in the area have been contacted regarding the problem, but very little has been done with residents hiring their own pest controller in order to try and get rid of the rats.
He said: "This has been going on for months and residents have been in touch with Choice Housing, Belfast City Council and others who keep saying its not their problem. "No one wants to take responsibility for trying to resolve this and the residents are a mixture of elderly and young mothers. Some have actually moved our and in with other family members until this is resolved."
