Whether with Rockets or someone else, Eric Gordon just wants to win
On a team loaded with 19-to-21-year-olds, Rockets coach Stephen Silas, left, appreciates having a veteran shoulder to lean on in guard Eric Gordon.As their losing streak dragged on to an 11th consecutive defeat, the Rockets were better, but just for one game and on one end of the court. Eric Gordon could take little solace in that glimmer of hope or, one might say, step in the direction of improvement.
Much is assumed about what Gordon, the adult in the room among the extraordinarily young Rockets, really wants. “It's been tough for him,” coach Stephen Silas said. “He's really trying his best to help these young guys and show them the right way of doing things. He is a consummate professional. Whatever —whether it's practice, whether it's getting his work in after practice, whether it's in the weight room, during the summer he was in every day — he has a way of kind of just talking to the guys.
Since the Rockets began their rebuild almost exclusively around acquiring young players and draft picks, Gordon has seemed likely to be traded. At 34, he is 12 years older than the next oldest Rockets starter, Kevin Porter Jr. Gordon's timeline would not seem to fit with the Rockets’, but it can also be argued they need more, rather than fewer, veterans.
