A BBC presenter was left fuming with Rishi Sunak as he laughed off a key question about the General Election.

During an interview with BBC Radio Tees, the Prime Minister was asked about the date of the next election, with host Amy Oakden saying it was the “overwhelming” question listeners wanted to ask.

Asked once again if he could give a date, Sunak continued to laugh and said “unfortunately not” before the host said: “Why not? Why is that funny sorry? Why are you laughing?”The PM added: “There’s a way that we announce general elections, and it would be done in a formal and official way. And I think that the most important thing is the choice at that election.

“But I believe that this year we’ve turned the corner and people can start to see that the plans that we’ve put in place are working, start to see positive change.” He replied:"Because there's a formal and official way we do that. I've said repeatedly and clearly that my working assumption would be that we have a General Election in the second half of the year.We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
