A 76-year-old pedestrian was fatally crushed between two cars as Bay Area police attempted to pull over a driver for reckless driving, officials said. The pedestrian was identified as Russell Hawk, a Vallejo resident, the Solano County Coroner’s office told SFGATE. The crash occurred in Vallejo around 2:30 p.m.
The driver hit one car that then pushed into another car, crushing Hawk, who was standing between two cars. Hawk was taken to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. After the crash, the driver fled the scene on foot, VPD said. Police said they found a firearm in his vehicle. Police have not found or arrested the suspect as of Wednesday, Rashad Hollis, a spokesperson for the department, told SFGATE. As of Tuesday, there have been seven fatal crashes in Vallejo in 2023.
