Morecambe basketball star Catherine Yearron aiming for glory after missing out last year
Morecambe's leading wheelchair athlete say a 'gruelling' travel schedule will be completely worth it if she can clinch the Women's Premier League title this year.
“When I first started doing it, it was so tiring but when it becomes a weekly thing you get used to it – nothing feels that far away anymore,” said Yearron, who joined the Wolves in 2021. “I think we’ve improved a lot as a team, I improved a lot."Being able to go and train at Worcester with higher level players really helped me improve my own skills and work on my technique.
The partnership, launched in 2020, is helping the next generation of British athletes achieve their goals and the help is invaluable in funding Yearron’s trips up and down the country. Yearron is all set for a big 2023, with more eyes than ever on wheelchair basketball after the success of the 3x3 format at this summer’s Commonwealth Games. With Women’s Premier League matches streamed on BBC iPlayer, more are being exposed to the sport and Yearron has seen the impact first hand.
